Organisms that break down the matter from dead plants and animals, waste products, and recycle this matter into nutrients that are released back into the soil. They are called decomposers

They get energy from decaying matter - dead plants and animals As they eat, they release nutrients and minerals back into the soil, which will be used by plants as they grow and develop.
