2 Three Components of Ag Ed
The agricultural education classroom should be made up of the following three things: Classroom Instruction Supervised Agricultural Experience FFA FFA Moto: Learning to Do; Doing to Learn; Earning to Live; Living to Serve.

3 Classroom Instruction
Classroom time is spent learning basic information, terms, and necessary skills. We will use books, magazines, local people as well as other resources for our class material. We will be both inside and outside for learning. We spend as much time as possible in the greenhouse.

4 Supervised Agricultural Experience
Better known as SAE projects…An SAE is a practical application of classroom concepts designed to provide “real world” experiences and develop skills in agriculturally related career areas. We will talk A LOT more about SAE projects in about a week!

5 FFA at the National Level
FFA is the largest students organization in America! There are an estimated 600,000 student members.

6 FFA Mission What is a mission? According to Webster’s Dictionary a mission is a specific task with which a person or a group is charged. The FFA Mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success.

7 FFA in North Carolina There are approximately 17,000 FFA student members in NC. Students can participate in various activities in FFA from leadership roles to contests (called Career Development Events) in specific content areas.

8 FFA…at Rosman High School
We typically have about 70 student members in our club. Anyone can join FFA.

9 More on Career Development Events
Better known as CDE’s. CDEs are designed to improve skills in various areas. Students can participate both in team events and individual contests depending on the contest. Areas of competition: Forestry -- Nursery/Landscape Beef Cattle Judging --Parliamentary Procedure Dairy Evaluation --Floriculture Poultry Judging --Intro to Horticulture Tool Identification Ag mechcanics Horse Judging Land Judging

10 Scholarships There are scholarships available through FFA at the local level, state level and national level. If you are interested in these please let me know and we’ll search for those 

11 Opportunities Available Through Agricultural Education and FFA
The opportunities that are available are limitless, including but not limited to: Officers and committees: know duties and how those experiences can be used in the horticulture industry and really any career field. Program of Activities: helps in goal setting, developing plans and steps to reach goals. Career Development Events or CDE’s: speaking events, parli pro, business meetings, skill events. Banquets, conventions, conferences, events, community service.
