Presentation on theme: "Soil ASSESSMENT Values at Risk Soil Productivity"— Presentation transcript:

1 Soil ASSESSMENT Values at Risk Soil Productivity
Localized loss of nutrient rich topsoil through hillslope erosional processes (dry ravel, wind, and water). Recovery period will be rapid on north slopes and and several years on south slopes on magnitude and duration of erosive event(s).

2 Soil ASSESSMENT Highest erosion rates are expected in the Little Sur Bixby and Big Sur (above lodge) Drainages. Fire-Wide Average erosion rates 3.0 tons/acre (2 year runoff event) 6.0 tons/acre (5 year runoff event) Risk Assessment: Soil Productivity Probability of Damage or Loss: Likely. Magnitude of Consequences: Moderate Risk: High

3 Recommendations - treatments
No treatments recommended for soil productivity – natural recovery recommended Off-site effects of soil erosion and loss of soil cover including accelerated runoff and increased sediment Recommended Treatment FS road 18S05.2 to Boy Scout Camp. Soil Burn Severity Acres Percent Very Low / Unburned 4763 6% Low 24381 32% Moderate 44687 59% High 1795 2%
