INTRODUCTION The basis for our study is 2 Thessalonians 1:6-9:
Some folks will suffer “everlasting destruction” ! Men who fail to live by the standards of the Bible will be destroyed. A number of things can result in one’s destruction. “since it is a righteous thing with God to repay with tribulation those who trouble you, 7 and to give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, 8 in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,”

Lack of knowledge God’s people are a “taught” people: Matt. 11:28-29; 2 Tim. 2:15 God expects His people to know! Matt. 9:13; Jn. 6:44-45; Rom. 10:1-3; Hos. 4:6 Peter said, “Lord, to who shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.” Jn. 6:68; 2 Pet. 3:18; 2:20; 1 Pet. 3:15 Do you have enough knowledge to not be destroyed?! Some Things That Destroy

Unbelief Jude 5 tells us “them that believe not” shall be “destroyed.” cf. Jn. 8:24 Dozens of passages tell us we must have faith to please God: Heb. 11:6 Belief and obedience are equal in God’s eyes: Heb. 3:16-19 Are you an obedient believer? Lk. 6:46 Some Things That Destroy

Adultery Our society takes adultery for granted: Prov. 6:32; Matt. 5:28 Even some Christians accept adultery: Heb. 13:4 Job described adultery as a crime: Job 31:11 Divorce almost always leads to adultery: Matt. 19:9 To repent one has to leave the adulterous marriage! Hard? Yes! A necessity? Yes! Matt. 19:10 Don’t let adultery destroy you! Prov. 6:32 Some Things That Destroy

Pride Many people think they have all the answers; I’ve studied the Bible with a few of them! They don’t think they’re prideful: Eph. 4:1-2; Phil. 4:5; 2:3-5 Pride destroys! Prov. 16:18; 2 Chron. 26:19 Some forms of ‘pride’ are OK! God will not accept the prideful: Jas. 4:6; 1 Cor. 13:4; Lk. 18:11-12; 1 Cor. 10:12 Some Things That Destroy

Wresting scripture People “wrest the scriptures”: 2 Pet. 3:15-16 They believe they are right, but they’re not! Gal. 1:6- 9 Many just use the Bible only for “proof texts”: Matt. 10:28; Mk. 9:42ff; Gal. 5:4; Rev. 20:4; 1 Thess. 4:17; Mk. 16:16; 1 Pet. 3:21; Gal. 6:10; Jas. 1:27 God will destroy you if you “wrest the scriptures”: Rev. 22:18-19; Gal. 1:6-9; Psa. 119:128 Some Things That Destroy

The tongue James addresses the power of the tongue: Jas. 3:1-12 If we don’t control our tongue we’ll be destroyed: Prov. 13:3; Matt. 12:36-37 We can’t hide these things from the Lord! Lk. 12:2-3 Some Things That Destroy

Some Things That Destroy
The broad way Jesus contrasts two “ways”: Matt. 7:13-14 The “broad way” leads to destruction and many follow it ! The “narrow way” leads to “life” (i.e., heaven), but only a “few…find it.” Jn. 14:6 Don’t follow the crowd on the “broad way” ! 2 Thess. 1:9; Acts 3:22-23 Some Things That Destroy

CONCLUSION We need to examine ourselves to insure we’re not on the road to destruction: 2 Cor. 13:5 Lack of knowledge Unbelief Adultery Pride Wresting scripture The tongue The broad way But you can avoid destruction! Some Things That Destroy
