4. Plot Summary
Pandy Ellis is on a mission to recover his partner, Bolly Wherrit AKA White Thunder, who has been taken prisoner by Native Americans
His journey finds him amongst the ranks of General Custer, about to fight in the battle of the Little Big Horn, which the audience knows is a historic loss for Cuter and his men
There are few survivors, including Pandy, Bolly, and a young boy named Mason who rode alongside Custer
Mason stalks a huge Native American man that the narrator names “The Red Goliath.” Mason shoots him and thinks him dead, but the Native American plays opossum and captures him
Just when all hope is lost, Bolly saves him and kills the Red Goliath. With Mason and his sister Adele (whom Bolly was trying to find this whole time apparently), Bolly meets up with Pandy Ellis, General Terry and his men, the remainder of the seventh cavalry

5. Technology
Since this dime novel is a western, most of the technology is centered around weaponry, specifically firearms
Revolvers, Pistols, and Rifles
Guns are used by both the Native Americans and the “Heroes”
Pandy worries that Custer underestimates the Native Americans because they are similarly armed
The weapons that the heroes use have a legendary quality to them
General Custer’s revolver saves Mason’s life and is his weapon of choice throughout the rest of the novel

7. Technology
Weaponry portrays the hero “against the odds” on multiple situations
“Guns cracked about him, bullets whistled close to his head…yet this veteran urged his horse forward, armed only with a knife as a serviceable weapon”
Guns in the hands of the heroes are always just
“ The hammer fell, the crack came, and the bullet did its mission of retributive justice”
“The rifle proved to be a good one in the right hands, for as the report sounded, one of the approaching braves sprang widely forward with a convulsive drawing up of the legs”
