After winning the French and Indian War Colonists developed a sense of unity Britain gained more territory and possessions Double the size Britain was left with a large debt Double the size = double the expense =double the problems Why? To help pay for the war debt, Britain imposes new taxes or acts on the colonies. HRT groups Using your textbook, research or glean information about the new taxes or acts passed by Parliament that were place on the colonists after the F&I War. After researching, create an informative jingle or infomercial with the information gleaned

20 1766/1767 Parliament repealed the Stamp Act, but passed the Declaratory Act, which claimed that Parliament had total authority over the colonies. The Townshend Acts set up a system to enforce new import duties. Colonists protested court orders called writs of assistance, which were used to search for illegal goods. Once again, the colonists boycotted.

24 1770 Parliament repealed all the Townshend duties, except the one on tea. That tax was left in force to demonstrate Parliament’s right to tax the colonies.

25 Boston Massacre On March 5, 1770, the Boston Massacre occurred, in which 5 Boston citizens were killed and 6 were injured. The colonies (along w/ Samuel Adams) set up Committees of Correspondence to keep colonists informed of British actions.
