Military Task force report – chaired by Jeannine Nelson – recommends several changes but does not find widespread problems.
Multicultural Affairs offices moves to University Center. New space created ‘barn raising’ style with students, faculty and staff participating, taking ownership. Note small child in background of photo as student paints.
Excellence in Local Industry Award. The Colorado Springs Economic Development Corporation recognized UCCS Nov. 2 with an Excellence in Local Industry Award. The university received the Community Infrastructure Award in recognition of “organizations or agencies that provide exceptional service and support in regard to community infrastructure, workforce, etc.”   We got notice of this in October.
Survey of alumni . More than 93 percent of recent graduates from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs were satisfied with their education and 91 percent would recommend their field of study to others, according to a recently completed survey of the Class of 2006.
President’s Office moves to Denver, important move as President Brown works to make System more three-campus oriented.

TRW Building acquired in year-end 2006 deal that will likely make it the largest gift in university history (difference between fire sale price paid by CU F and appraised price)

Governor Ritter recommends $7 million in funding for Science and Engineering, the difference between 2001 estimates and 2007 reality.
Black History Month is a cooperative effort with African American Voice newspaper, Dean La Vonne Neal headlines. Record crowd of 150+ on a Friday afternoon.
UCCS joins with 100 or so other universities in a pledge to develop sustainability plans.
Union construction starts = late students, late faculty, late staff. Ah, the price of progress.

Heller Center plans gell, call for retaining much of the two main rooms. Improvements include appropriate bathrooms, kitchen facilities to make it useable as a Center for Arts and Humanities.
Strategic planning has been occurring – facilities, diversity, sustainability – to name three but overall goals committee takes drafts publics, solicits input
Southern Colorado Solution was my testimony before joint House/Senate Education Committee.

Daniels gift was $500K to fund K-12 learning center in Science and Engineering
CSURF – Colorado Springs Undergraduate Research Forum brings CC, UCCS, USAFA together to show off best and brightest. Rare example of cooperation that truly benefits students.
Christina Murphy of Marshall College named Provost/VCAA after national search
Virginia Tech. Not a UCCS story. But mentioned in that it must serve as a reminder of the importance of emergency planning and as hard questions asked about how we handle students. Encourage cooperation. But at front of mind when asked to help.
Field house. 1,500 seat field house announced. Funds to come from president’s initiative fund.

Campus awards recognize outstanding accomplishment
Pow wow held May 5. First time in years, possibly ever. Important as we recognize native heritage of this area, of the campus.
Commencement – May 18. Last of the two-a-day ceremonies. Important that faculty come. Important for students. Important for you. Next year, Dec grad ceremony at Pikes Peak Center.
Long Bill. Never finished this early before. Key wins for UCCS are: $11 million for science and engineering, $90 increase in COF, controlled maintenance funds, 5% salary increase for classified staff.
May 15 is Kane Scholars event. Second class. Full-ride merit scholarships for UCCS, PPCC. In class of Boetcher and Daniels. Funds from Fountain ranchers Andy and Wanden Kane. Andy shown here at a rodeo event at the Broadmoore in A different time …

Murphy will be new. Aaditional faculty lines approved during past two years, additional staff. Enrollment needs to go up. Retention, engagement need to go up.
VCSS search. Robert has agreed for one year. Need to look beyond.
Strategic Plan. To regents in June. Over summer, fall put into action.
Marketing focus. Lipman Hearne efforts are kick start but must develop sustainable, continual efforts as UCCS competes for best and brightest, to be #1 choice. Remind that they may see newspaper ads, hear radio ads as part of buzz building. Everyone’s job to recruit.
New programs – CJ, BI, DNP, Ed leadership all underway this fall. Groundbreakings for Dwire, Student Rec set for Aug. 15.
CU Foundation on track for record year. To be announced at fiscal year end and after legislative session. Campaign planning underway

14. Marketing Update
These are ‘buzz building’ ads that will run in the Gazette and Independent beginning May 13. There will also be ads – but using different students – in Hispania News, African American Voice and in the base newspapers at Peterson, Fort Carson and Schreiver.
Also as part of the buzz building, internet advertising (Facebook, in particular) and radio advertising.
