Agriculture The leading industry by far in the America Colonies and about 90% of all people farmed. Tenant Farming by indentured servants made up most of the workforce.

Tobacco Farming Good crop in Maryland and Virginia. Made many plantation owners very wealthy since this product was in demand a crossed the world.

“Bread” Colonies 1759 Farmer’s helped boost food supply in New York exporting 80,000 barrels of flour a year.

Lumbering Lumber had to be cut by men to make boats of people all over the world. The New World had lots of lumber for harvesting. This was one the most important activities in the colonies. 1/3 of British boats were America built.

Household Manufacturing
Women played a key role. They produced many clothes. Highly skilled craftspeople were scarce and highly prized.
