Load the Boat Intro to Colonization.
Essential Question: What do colonists need to know about North America to create a successful colony? What kind of a personality would a person need to survive this experience? Content Objective Understand the Push and Pull Factors that led Europeans to the American Colonies.

Step minutes Your group will create a list of criteria (things needed) to establish a successful colony. This list will include things you should bring with you. (remember it is a small boat). You must research and pick an actual place for your colony. It must be on the East Coast and in the area of one of the 13 colonies (actually started with 12) YOU MAY USE YOUR PHONE OR THE TEXT BOOK Think about the kinds of resources you like to already be available. Think about the climate that you would like to live in. Think about what kind of economy you would like your economy to have (Big Farming, Logging, Etc) Finally, consider the native populations in the area of their chosen colony site, and what preparation they will need to make to deal with (work with) native populations.

Step Minutes Groups will create a Poster Advertising their colony. What are the benefits of investing time, money, and possibly life in your settlement in the New World. Groups must create an appropriate name for their colony. Groups must create maps that show where their colony will be located, as well as where your resources are in comparison to your colony. Groups will outline the advantages of their settlement. What kind of an Economy they expect to establish. Outline your Moral code. Include a list of material resources colonist will need to bring with them as well as a brief description of why those materials are necessary.

Gallery Walk minutes Travel with your group to scout out the other Colonies. Take notes as to which colonies you would and would NOT join. Briefly note WHY you would or would not join for at least 4 groups This is a MUSICAL Chairs type activity, when the music stops finish your thoughts and head back to your seats. Keep your Notes for Thursday
