1 The Writing Process Spiral: pg

2 These notes belong in your spiral, on the bottom half of page 132
Drafting These notes belong in your spiral, on the bottom half of page 132 Type out your pre-write! Pick out the best and most important ideas. Think about your audience – what do they want to read? What do they need to read? Use your pre-write chart to draft paragraphs. Write your body paragraphs first… then add your introduction and conclusion!

3 Revising = Making it good
These notes belong in your spiral, on the top half of page 133 Read your piece out loud!! Decide – is every idea important? Look for layering – does every sentence add to the thought? (If it’s repetitive… change it!) Does the piece sound like it’s coming from experience? If not, do I need to add more details, or another anecdote? Change all dead words! Use a vocabulary word! Circle the 1st word of every sentence – if they are too repetitive, change them! Does my introduction “hook” the reader? Does my conclusion tie up my piece satisfactorily?

4 Editing Proofreading = Making it right
These notes belong in your spiral, on the bottom half of page 133 Have I checked my grammar? Make sure nouns and verbs go together! Make sure all verbs are in the same tense! Have I checked all spelling? Have I checked all punctuation? Listen for run-on sentences! Listen for fragment sentences!
