Mrs. Wingerter’s Heart Book
I read this classic in college for the first time. It was beautiful and made me fall in love with Southern Women’s literature. Atticus’s relationship with his daughter Scout reminded me of my dad and me. I loved Atticus’s nobility and determination to do what is fair instead of popular for all people. The Fault In Our Stars is one of the books I have read that made me sob. It made me feel like I knew the characters and I wanted desperately to save them. I read this book straight through, not stopping to sleep. I woke my husband up in the middle of the night because I was crying so hard. He thought something was wrong. There was something wrong, but no one could fix it because it was in a book. I don’t remember the first time I read Harry Potter. I do remember the first time I brought the magic of Hogwarts to my daughter though. This series is the first one I’ve started reading to her and it makes my heart happy to share Harry, Ron, and Hermione with her. It’s a nightly ritual that is one of the best parts of my day. I picked up The Crossover after hearing it book talked on NPR. I downloaded both the novel and the audio version. When I heard the audio, I was hooked. The story was great and I knew my students would love Filthy McNasty and the story. The vocabulary actually taught me new words. I love recommending this book! Mrs. Wingerter’s Heart Book Print The Kite Runner was very popular when it first hit the shelves. I bought it and couldn’t get into the story because I couldn’t get past how to pronounce the names foreign to me. I ended up buying the audio for a road trip. I am so glad I did. I was transported to a place only experienced by me in terms of the news, war, and terrorism. This book gave me a glimpse into a culture I knew nothing about before. I read The Hate U Give this summer. Actually I listened to it and I’m so glad I did. I would never have been able to capture the voice of a black teenager in my own mind as I read. The novel helped me understand the very real differences and struggles that black people face in our country. In my every day interactions with people, I often think of the characters, lessons, and truths in this story.
