1 Tessellations Creation
Objective: After investigating physical art work using tessellations, the learners (in pairs) will explore and create a tessellation of your own choosing, using Amaziograph App. After watching the example in whole group, the learner pairs begin their explorations. Go to the + sign in left corner and select the Tiles option. Note the grid. To make changes, tap the tool settings icon (on left) and tap the graph button at the bottom. Next tap the adjust grid button (at bottom); three pins will appear. Touch and hold/move any pin to change the parallelogram. Tap DONE. Zoom in (fingers together on screen and then open) on one shape. Now begin your tessellation. Design requirements include the following: Consider inspiration for your design (be able to name it), Use multiple shapes inside the parallelogram, Use of coloring mixing, Use of different thickness and type of lines, Use of opacity change (the transparency of a color). When complete, tap the Actions button; then Share and Print and then Save Image and allow access to photos. Then tap Actions button again and then Mail, mailing to yourselves and me, the teacher. In the subject line, type both of your names, grade and title for your creation. Extension: Give your tessellation creation an appropriate title. Create another tessellation using Graph: Hexagons, or 3-Mirror Kaleidoscope. Cost = $.99, I’d already purchased for my ipads. Teacher Notes Name: Denise Tullier-Holly Address: School: Southeastern Lab School Grade Level/ Subject: 8th grade, Art and Math Art Standards: VIS.5-8.VA-CE—M6, Understand and visually express relationships among visual arts, other arts, and disciplines outside the arts. Learners must use the list of requirements. Learner pairs discuss choices and assist one another in their tessellation creation. Extensions include naming their naming their tessellation creation and creating another tessellation using another graph, Hexagons, or 3-Mirror Kaleidoscope. CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.8.G.A.1 Verify experimentally the properties of rotations, reflections, and translations: CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.8.G.A.1.A Lines are taken to lines, and line segments to line segments of the same length. CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.8.G.A.1.B Angles are taken to angles of the same measure. CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.8.G.A.1.C Parallel lines are taken to parallel lines.
