2. Formula: population size/ area=population density
We use this formula to determine carrying capacity and to estimate how many organisms live in an area.
Ex: A population of deer lives on a 500 acre area. The deer population size is 150 deer. This is one fourth the carrying capacity. What is the population size at carrying capacity?
150/500= pop density pop density = .3
Now this is only a fourth of the total that can be supported so 0.3*4= 1.2 pop density.
Then plug that back in and use the pop size as your unknown
1.2=pop size/ (500)=pop size deer at carrying capacity

There are 90 rabbits living in an area of 30 km2. This is one half the carrying capacity. What is the population density at carrying capacity?

An island has an area of 20 mi2. A population of birds lives on this island. The density of the population is 10 lizards per mi2 at carrying capacity. What is the population size at one half the carrying capacity?

5. Calculating carrying capacity that has been exceeded.
A population of zebras is at 80 the carrying capacity is 60. By how much does the population exceed the carrying capacity.
80/60= 1.3
