Recycled Fashion Final major project

CONCEPT. My chosen style is Fashion Photography because Fashion is something I want to pursue in the future as a career. I will be doing a series of fashion images just using recycled fashion from places like Depop and charity shops. As the clothing will be vintage each shoot will be in the style of a Subculture such as, Mod, Hippie, Grunge, Surf/skate and Glam rock. I want my images to look appealing to my audience, as I want to promote recycled fashion as it helps our environment.

INFLUENCES AND INSPIRATION
Nicole Bently Australian Vogue, GQ and Marie Claire Magazine photographer. I like how she uses soft, warm lighting in some of her images. Bently’s style is colorful and she uses great contrasting tones in her images. In some of her images she uses vintage styled clothes and gives the image a great texture for this. Horst Diekgerdes German Vogue photographer that has worked with big designers such as Alexander McQueen. I like his work because he makes the models look natural and uses really nice soft, natural lighting. His style has a very fresh, clean look about it and he uses light and shading to bring contrast into his images. Diekgerdes shoots in colour and ensures the backdrop is in focus to add more detail into his images.

BENEFITS OF RECYCLED FASHION
Recycling your clothes is a great way to help the environment by not chucking perfectly good clothing away. For example the process of dyeing clothes is bad for the air and water because it involves harmful chemicals. Waist lands/ land fills is another prime example of why it’s a good thing to recycle clothing. The bigger the waist land the more pollution it gives off. Around 500,000 tones of clothing is dumped in landfills every year. The benefits of recycling your clothes is that you can make some money out of it. Perhaps something you may not want anymore, someone else could want in their wardrobe. Charity shops don’t only help to recycle clothing but the money they make always goes to a charity such as Cancer Awareness or Animal Welfare Trusts. I think more people in my generation now go to either Charity shops or use sites such as Depop because the “Vintage” look has come back into fashion, for example Gucci released vintage inspired look on one of their catwalks.

SHOOT PLANS All of my shoots will be on location suited to the Subculture I am shooting. All of the clothing will be second hand and I will be doing any of the make up or styling myself (hair and make up). I will be using a different model for all of my five shoots but using a few I have used for previous projects, due to knowing there reliable. Equipment I will be using is my Nikon D1500 for practice shoots and the Nikon D7200 or D90 depending on what's available to book. I will also be using a tripod for my shoots. I also want to use a flash gun to experiment as I feel it could make my images look stronger, however I will be doing a test shoot with one first to practice.

HELATH AND SAFTEY Having the models permission to photograph them.
