Google Cast for Education is not a physical device.
It is a Chrome app that a teacher can run from their device to allow students to cast their screen to the teacher’s device. The students must “request access” and the teacher has to “allow access” before it is cast to the teacher’s device. Since the teacher’s device is hooked up to the projector, the whole class can see it.
10
What Do I Need? Teachers:
Go to the Chrome Web Store, use the search bar on the left to search for the “Google Cast for Education” app. Click Go through the downloading process to install the app. Students: Installing an extension is no longer required in order to find a device or cast from Chrome. Chromecast functionality is now built in as part of the Chrome browser and is available in the Chrome Settings menu.
11
Once the app is installed it will appear one of three places (depending on the device you’re using):
Chromebook - Press the “search” key (looks like a magnifying glass) on your keyboard and the app should appear there. You can then “pin” the app to your “shelf” where it will appear on your home screen. Macbook - It can be found in your “applications” folder. Once opened, it will appear in your dock. Desktop or other laptop - Open your Google Chrome Browser click on “Apps” in the top left under your back arrow. Teacher Device Setup
12
Teacher Device Setup Open the App - You should get a “settings” page when first opening the App. Choose your receiver name. This will allow students to find your device when they want to cast. Example: RThomas Click “Save” at the bottom and your screen should change to a screen similar to the one on the bottom right - displaying the time, date, and your name at the bottom.

Teacher Device Setup: Adding Students
Click on the “share” button and add anybody in your domain that you want to give casting permission to. Choose if you want to give permission to cast at anytime or if you want them to be able to request. If you have students enrolled in a class in Google Classroom, you can add that whole class and avoid typing individual names! Teacher Device Setup: Adding Students
