9 CAASPP CA (California) Assessment of Student Performance and Progress
...one of the many measures that indicates whether students are on track to be college and career ready at each tested grade level

10 Test Eligibility Smarter Balanced (SBAC) ELA and Mathematics
Default test assignment for grades 3–8 and grade 11 California Science Test (CAST) Pilot Default science test assignment for grades 5, 8, and a sampling of H.S. grades 10-12 California Alternate Assessment (CAA) for ELA, Mathematics and CAA for Science Pilot Must be designated as having severe cognitive disability Must have an IEP and IEP team determined that CAA for ELA, Mathematics, and Science as the most appropriate tests Standards-Based Tests in Spanish (STS) Voluntary tests for grades 2 through 11 Spanish speaking EL student Enrolled in US School less than 12 months Eligibility date: 2/27/2016

11 Smarter Balanced Summative Assessment (SBAC) ELA and Math
Grades 3-8 and 11 Testing Window: February 27 - June 1 CDE Slide 17

12 Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments
All students in grades three through eight and grade eleven take the Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments with the following exceptions: Students with the most significant cognitive disabilities and whose individualized education program (IEP) team designates the use of the alternate assessment English learners who have been enrolled in a school in the United States for fewer than 12 months for ELA (optional exemption) CDE Slide 19 TAM Pgs

13 Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC)

14 Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC)
The SBAC ELA and SBAC Math assessments are comprised of two components: Computer Adaptive Test (CAT) Performance Task (PT) Students will not receive a score if the CAT and PT are not completed TAM Pg. 56

15 Two SBAC Components Computer Adaptive Test (CAT) Performance Task (PT)
Adjusts the level of difficulty to the student’s abilities Student is not scored on the basis of the number of correct answers Student is scored on both the number of correct answers and the difficulty of the questions completed Designed to provide students with an opportunity to demonstrate higher-order thinking skills to explore and analyze a complex, real world scenario Elizabeth CDE slide 20-22 TAM Pg. 163

16 Early Assessment Program (EAP)
Used to demonstrate college readiness at the California State University (CSU) and some California community colleges Grade eleven students must authorize the release of their test results for each assessment (ELA and mathematics). Students will receive a question at the end of the CAT portion of each test authorizing the release of test results. Students who do not authorize the release of their test results may need to provide a copy of the CAASPP score report to the campus. CDE slide 22 TAM Pgs

17 Benefits of the Early Assessment Program (EAP)
Students who release their CAASPP test scores for EAP purposes and receive a score of Standard Exceeded for ELA and/or mathematics will not have to: Participate in the CSU Early Start Program Take the CSU Placement Exam for the content area(s) where the score received was Standard Exceeded Take the community college assessment for placement CDE Slide 23 TAM Pgs

18 California Alternate Assessments (CAAs)
ELA and Math Testing Window: March 20 - June 1 CDE Slide 42 *Formerly CAPA

46 Importance of Informing Parents and Guardians About Testing
Pursuant to California Code of Regulations, Title 5, Section 852: Each year local educational agencies (LEAs) are required to notify parents or guardians of their pupil’s participation in the CAASPP tests. In addition, LEAs are required to inform parents/ guardians of their right to exempt their child from taking the CAASPP tests. Parents/Guardians must annually submit a written request specifying the tests to be exempted. CDE Slide 4

47 Parent Guardian Exemptions
Parent guardian exemption letters must be sent to the Assessment Office annually The letter should include: Date Assessments that student is being exempted from (SBAC, CAST, or CAA) Parent signature The Assessment Office will set the parent/guardian exemption condition coded in TOMS

50 Tasks to Complete in TOMS for the 2016–17 Administration
Add and manage all users Review student data Demographic data from the California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System (CALPADS) View assigned test settings for students Confirm TOMS matches AERIES and SEIS If concerns contact the Assessment office Note: If a student’s test settings are incorrect, test administrators should not administer the test to the student CDE Slide 83

51 TOMS Student Profile Demographics
TOMS Student Profile Demographics Data is read-only; corrections must be made in CALPADS. Students’ grade levels must be correct in TOMS before the first date of the testing window. The grade level is frozen on the day the student logs onto his or her first test. Any grade level changes require an incident report to be submitted in the Security and Test Administration Incident Reporting System (STAIRS) and a reset appeal. CDE Slide 85 51

52 TOMS Student Profile Demographics
All demographic data is pulled from CALPADS and is read-only in TOMS CDE Slide 84

53 Importance of CALPADS and AERIES
CALPADS is the sole source for student demographic, enrollment grade, and program participation data. CALPADS data is pulled from AERIES Highly important that AERIES data is correct Work with site clerical staff to ensure entered data is correct Clerical staff - Importance of ensuring data in AERIES is correct

54 Importance of CALPADS Grade level is frozen on the day the student logs onto his or her first test. LEAs cannot update student demographic data in TOMS. LEAs must keep data in CALPADS up-to-date. Processing time from CALPADS to TOMS is 24–48 hours. Student accessibility supports are uploaded and maintained in TOMS, not in CALPADS. CDE Slide 87

55 TOMS Student Profile Demographics
CALPADS Education Program designation for Special Education (IEP) or Section 504 plan These data are read-only; they must be modified in CALPADS. Reminder: Embedded and non-embedded accommodations are available only to students who have an Education Program code of “101” for a Section 504 plan or “144” for a Special Education indicator with a valid primary disability type in CALPADS. 67 The Golden Rules of Entering Accessibility Supports in AERIES
I didn’t enter the end date for last year’s supports, what do I do? Accessibility Supports in AERIES are ONLY for students WITHOUT an IEP Every Accessibility Support entered into AERIES must have start date and end date that falls in the same academic year Good News! If you didn’t put an end date in AERIES last year, the Assessment Office will update that for you

68 The Golden Rules of Entering Accessibility Supports in SEIS
There are three pieces to ensuring SEIS talks to TOMS about student supports Using the Indicating the student participating in the CAASPP assessment drop list to identify if the student participates with or without accommodations Selecting specific student Accessibility Supports using the green buttons that appear after setting the participation level Clicking the checkboxes for the type of supports you set Enter supports from top to bottom and left to right to keep from missing steps Change picture to the right, make it have numbers Note, for the time being… we may need to click 30 in drop down until SEIS is updated

69 Sample Student: An EL Learner, with an IEP
Supports needed by the student: Closed Captioning, Speech to Text, Spanish Glossary, and Stacked Translation in Spanish The Student Test Settings in AERIES are... The Special Factors page shows… Will this student get all of the supports s/he needs? All learners should have access of the Accessibility Supports needed to be successful

70 Avoid Appeals! Check Student Test Settings in TOMS
Ways to check student Accessibility Supports in TOMS before sitting student to test Site SC can check Student by student in TOMS Test Administrator (TA) can check test settings in the TA interface prior to approving the student for testing If Case Carrier will not be administering the assessment, they should work with the SC to provide a copy of students and their supports to the TA If a student’s test settings are incorrect in the TA interface more than 48 hours after you updated them, contact your SC to correct the test settings in TOMS and test the student at a later time TAM Pgs

71 How and When Test Settings Get to TOMS
Student Test Settings are entered into SEIS or AERIES The Assessment Office Uploads the AERIES and SEIS Extracts into TOMS daily Accessibility Supports become available to students in the TA interface The Assessment Office extracts Student Test Settings from AERIES and SEIS daily SEIS 2.0 still speaks the same language as TOMS Student Accessibility Supports take up to 48 hours to be available to students after being loaded into TOMS Schedule for TOMS Test Settings Uploads: February 17th, 2017 February 24th, 2017 Daily from February 27th, 2017 until June 2nd, 2017
