WHY ARE WE HERE? From October 1, 1999 through October, 31, 2000, the following crimes were reported in the area from 12th Street to 20th Street, Van Buren to Buchanan; Sexual Assaults Agg. Assaults 61 Robberies Burglaries 106 Thefts Auto Thefts 76 Drug Crimes 192 Additionally, Central City Police Officers were advised that gang members had made death threats against Housing Officers.

RESIDENTS’ CONCERN Central City Precinct received hundreds of calls and neighborhood concern involving complaints of drug activity, aggravated assaults, armed robberies and sexual assault crimes. During the period October 1, 1999 through October 31, 2000, the 525 Beat area experienced 105 violent crimes.

GANG ACTIVITY E-Town Crip gang members and associates were criminally active in the neighborhood, with the hub of activity in the 1900 block of east Adams. Central City Precinct officers took numerous reports of crimes involving E-Town Crip gang members.

DRUG DISTRIBUTION E-Town Crip gang members distributed drugs through a complex system which included “runners” and “lookouts.”

E-TOWN CRIPS E-Town street gang began in early 1980s
Members claim an area 14th Street to 20th Street, Van Buren to Jackson.

E-TOWN CRIPS 72 members and 5 associates currently documented.
Police suspect the gang’s membership numbers to be significantly higher. All suspects in this investigation are either documented gang members or associates.

GANG INTERESTS Like most gangs, E-Town Crips are into money and drugs.
The drug of choice is Crack Cocaine.

INVESTIGATION RESULTS
The four-month undercover investigation resulted in charges being filed on 41 individual suspects. 135 felony charges for narcotic sales and participating or assisting in a criminal syndicate.

IMPACT Four (4) suspects entering into pleas of 9.2 years.
Eighteen suspects are currently entering into plea agreements which will guarantee prison time. Four (4) suspects entering into pleas of 9.2 years. Ten (10) suspects entering into pleas of at least 5 years.
