2016/2017 developments The company made a profit. Membership and the areas members come from continues to develop. Competition size and numbers continue to grow. We are working with BWL and Training Fitness Scotland on developing courses. PVG has become a major Public Issue. Improved Marketing (new banners, etc.).

Relationship with BWL and the home nations. We have met with BWL on developing a structure for the UK going forward. English Weightlifting has now formed it own governing body. Each home nation now has it own governing body. We are looking at using a more modern system for membership, competition management, courses, etc. (BARS). This means when you join WLS, you will automatically be a member of BWL.

Funding background. All our funding is now self generated. Two main sources: Membership (both individual and club). Sponsorship (thanks to Training Fitness Scotland for all their support). We have other sources (clothing, competition support, etc. all of which we are trying to develop. The more varied the sources of income, the better as it gives the company some stability.

Commonwealth Games/Championships. When looking back on the previous reports, I produced for AGMs, I came across the 2014 report. The previous games. Tells you how long I have been doing this job. The Commonwealth Championships are only a couple of months away. By the time the next Secretary's report is written, the 2018 games will be over. Raymond will give you more information on the 2018 squad and performances.

Coaching Development & Technical Official Development. We are still very short of fully qualified Coaches and Technical Officials. Every competition is larger and there are more competitions. There are more clubs and these are also getting larger. We need more Coaches and Officials. To coach, you need to have a Level 2 BWL coaching Certificate. To officiate, you need to have passed the Referees Exam. In order to do either at British Level, you need to have the appropriate BWL licence. To referee someone trying to achieve a British Standard (schools, youths, seniors, etc.) you must have the BWL licence.

2018 and into the future. Business continues to grow. We need more and younger people (think I am allowed to say that) to develop the business. Marketing, financial, administrative, etc. New marketing methods are being used to attract members. More coaches and officials are necessary to support the clubs and competitions. We need more and bigger venues. Competitions now have 100+ entries, so entries to the Scottish Open, Glasgow Open, etc. are being restricted. To make competitions mere accessible, we are now looking at District Opens and County Championships.
