1 Timeline and Predicting “The Nightingale”
The students make a timeline of “The Nightingale”, expand on , and predict an ending to the story. Follow the directions below to complete the activity. Get into teams of four. Brainstorm 5 different key events to summarize the story “The Nightingale”. Using the text as evidence, brainstorms 4 other events that might happen after the story ends. Open Microsoft Word 2013. Click on Blank Document. Click on Insert at the top left. Click on Smart Art. Click on Process from menu on the left. Scroll down until you see 3 rows of 9 gray boxes and Click. Look at the name on the right and make sure it says Vertical Bending Process. Click Okay. Following the boxes from left to right, type in your 5 timeline events in the story. Type in your 4 predicted events in the last 4 boxes. Click at the bottom right of the boxes and hit Enter. Type in 4 examples of text evidence you used for your predictions at the bottom of the boxes. Click the blue floppy disk at the top left. Insert jump drive into the usb port. Save as your Team name on the jump drives provided. This task uses: Common Core/NG Standard(s): CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.6.3 Describe how a particular story's or drama's plot unfolds in a series of episodes as well as how the characters respond or change as the plot moves toward a resolution. CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.6.1 Cite textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text. TEACHER NOTES: Teacher’s name/ D’nea Stanley/ School: DeQuincy Middle School Grade Level/Subject: 6th ELA Task Card Level: Two Special Directions/Considerations: The teacher needs to have Microsoft Word One jump drive per group. Activity Evaluation: Timeline/Prediction Rubric attached. Prerequisites for students: The students should have already read “The Nightingale”.
