2 Research Support Services (RSS):
Who are we? RSS Team are distributed across each School within the Faculty. Each School is linked to a Research Support ‘Hub’ Each Hub feeds into the Faculty Research Support Office, which in turn feeds into central RSS structure, including Business Engagement, Knowledge Exchange Team and Contracts Team. RSS supports the University’s strategy to encourage and support ‘World Class Research’ by maximising research income, supporting researchers to undertake high quality research and exploiting research outcomes: Increase research income in Faculty year on year Support researchers from application through to award stage Exploit outcomes such as the Impact of research, data storage or IP

6 Where can I find research funding opportunities?
• Funding bulletins and highlighted opportunities are sent out from each Hub • School research intranet pages – specific opportunities Faculty funding webpage – extensive list of all funding opportunities available within the Humanities. Categorised sections. • – The University have a subscription to this and the website covers funding for all research areas. • Visit websites such as individual Research Councils, Charities or the European Commission • The Research Support team will help to find specific funding opportunities for your area of research – please come and meet with us.

7 What does a Research Support Team do?
Provide support throughout the Life Cycle of research projects Application phase (known as ‘pre-award’): Help interpret and understand funding calls Liaise with funders and external partners Prepare project budget – including support for justification of resources Pathways to Knowledge Exchange and Impact Arrange internal peer-review & approval of proposal Assist lead applicant in submission of proposal

8 Research application systems
Main application portals used: JeS for Research Council applications, EU portal for Horizon 2020 applications and Egap2 for Charities such as the British Academy. JeS - EC Participant Portal - Egap2 - Register for each portal with affiliation to the University of Manchester. Inform the Research Office of any issue with affiliation on JeS System. Types of Proposal: Expressions of Interest Outline Proposal (Via JeS and the EC Participant Portal) Full Proposal (All systems) NB: each proposal type will have different requirements for submission.

9 Support for Successful Applications
Notification of result – mostly goes to lead applicant (If not, Research Support Team will be contacted and will let you know) Research Support Team will process the acceptance and contract with the funder on your behalf Account code and official start date issued by Research Support Team Research Support Team will advise on recruitment processes where applicable, the awarded budget and any governance issues such as ethical approval, open access compliance, data storage On-going financial and administrative guidance on managing your grant provided by Research Support Team throughout the project lifecycle
