1 An annotated bibliography
Barefoot running An annotated bibliography By Laura Galván-Estrada LIB 110 Spring 2017

2 My Topic I’ve heard a lot about the controversial issue of barefoot running. I’d like to know more about it. Is it a fad? I would like to research the benefits and challenges of running barefoot. I will explore the history of running with and without shoes. Are runners more or less prone to injuries one way or another? Are there special techniques for running without shoes? Are there guidelines for running barefoot in competition? Are there certain cultures which promote barefoot running?

3 Robillard, Jason. The barefoot running book: the art and science of barefoot and minimalist shoe running. New York: Plume, 2012. Type of Resource: Book Finding this Resource: I located this book by using the San Diego Public Library catalog. At first, I searched just using the words – barefoot running. But, I found when I put the words in quotations, I got better results. Secondary source. The author reports findings from other sources and analyzes data. Description: This book is both informative about barefoot running and acts as a guide to help people become barefoot runners. Current: This book was published in 2012, which means the information is still pretty fresh. Relevant: This book is about my topic. It provides scientific evidence concerning barefoot running. 4 Hoerzer, Stefan, et al. "Footwear Decreases Gait Asymmetry during Running." Plos ONE, vol. 10, no. 10, 21 Oct. 2015, pp EBSCOhost, doi: /journal.pone Type of Resource: Article (Peer Reviewed) Finding this Resource: I was able to locate this article using the SWC Library Database – Academic Search Premier. I searched for “barefoot running” in quotes again, and I limited my results to Full Text and Peer Reviewed articles. I also limited my results to the last 5 years. Description: This article looks at the role of footwear on the gait of runners. What makes this article interesting is that it highlights the role footwear may have on everyday life – not just running. Primary Source: The authors of this paper conducted original research on the topic. Current: This article was published in 2015, so it is very up-to-date. Relevant: This article helps me better understand the benefits of barefoot running by highlighting the role of gait when running. Author: The main author is a faculty member at University of Calgary. This article was published in a peer reviewed journal. This is the journal for the Public Library of Science. Accurate: This article provides a background review on the topic and describes their original research. Purpose: There does not appear to be a strong bias in this article. The information presented is strictly factual, and there is little emotional language used to persuade the reader.
