Research What is a flood? How does it happen? Where does flooding usually occur? How do people normally prepare and protect themselves from severe flooding? Do people that live in high-risk flood areas design their houses in a particular way to prevent damage to their house? YOU need to have at least 15 ideas This information will be used during your next challenge her-rain.htm acts/weather/floods.html disasters/floods/what-is-a-flood.html

The Challenge Create a dog house that is surrounded by a barrier that controls or prevents flooding.
4
The constraints 1.Choose from the array of supplies to design and build a barrier to prevent flooding of your doghouse. 2.The house must be placed on the bottom of your container. Build around it, but not under it. 3.The materials used for building may not touch the house excessively. 4.The barrier cannot be taller than half the height of the house. 5.You may choose one absorbent material by using your test data. 6.You will choose building supplies based on a price list and must stay within a shopping budget. 7.You may purchase additional supplies if your spending budget is not depleted. 8.Your barrier must be attractive. It is a barrier that will remain in place all the time. 9.The barrier will be tested by pouring 2 cups of water into the container. The house will be removed after ten seconds and checked for leakage.

Beginning the Challenge
You will complete a research page and test different materials for absorbency These tests will help determine how you will create a barrier that will keep your dog house dry and untouched by water.

You will have 2 days to plan, design and construct a dog house that is protected from flooding You will use you research, absorbency testing and the constraints to create your barrier. On the third day will make final tests of your barriers.

Reflection What went well? What did you struggle with? How were you a supportive team member? How could you be a better team member in the next challenge?
