3 Battle of Atlanta: The capture of and burning of Atlanta significantly boosted Northern morale, and Lincoln was reelected by a large margin.

4 Total War: Sherman waged this on the deep south targeting civilian and military destruction leaving behind him 250 mile long path.

6 Sherman’s “March to the Sea”
The larger cities of the South such as Savannah, Charleston and Atlanta, were now taken over by General William Tecumseh Sherman and his troops in their fateful March to the Sea.

7 Battles of Franklin and Nashville:
Final effort by the Confederate to win a battle to draw Sherman from his “March to the Sea.” It failed.

9 Fall of Richmond: On the evening of April 2, 1865 the Confederate government fled the city with the army right behind. On the morning of April 3, blue-coated troops entered the capital. Richmond was the main objective of the Union war effort, the object of four years of war.

Town where General Lee surrendered to General Grant ending the Civil War.

13 John Wilkes Booth: Actor who sympathized with the South and assassinated President Lincoln.

15 Andrew Johnson: Vice President from Tennessee who became President When Lincoln was assassinated.
