2 SAMPLE LIMERICKs There was once a girl living in Maine
She got really sick in the airplane “Oh mom, she will sigh” “I’ll feel like I’ll die!” And she said next she would go by train. Christopher likes learning to row He finds boats to buy - mom says, “no!” He questions, “Why me?” There’s already three Chris keeps them hidden from her though.

3 A limerick is a silly poem with five lines. 
They are often funny.  Limericks were made famous in the 1800's.  How to write a limerick: The first, second and fifth lines rhyme with each other and have the same number of syllables (typically 8 or 9).
The third and fourth lines rhyme with each other and have the same number of syllables (typically 5 or 6)

4 There was once a girl living in Maine (9 syllables) She got really sick in the airplane (9 syllables) “Oh mom,” she will sigh (5 syllables) “I feel like I’ll die!” (5 syllables) And she said next she would go by train. (9 syllables)

5 Long vowels long /a/ long /i/ Maine sighed airplane cried train

6 Christopher likes learning to row (8 syllables)
He finds boats to buy - mom says, “no!” (8 syllables) He questions, ‘Why me?” (5 syllables) There’s already three (5 syllables) Chris keeps them hidden from her though. (8 syllables)

7 Long vowels long /o/ long /e/ row see no three though
