TEXT: Hebrews 7:1-10 THEME The believer should be blessed by Christ as the great mediator:
13
History is filled with such men.

Why is the priesthood of Jesus is superior to all others?
33
II. Melchizedek was greater than Abraham and Levi. (4-10)
34
Hebrews 7:4-10 4 Just think how great he was: Even the patriarch Abraham gave him a tenth of the plunder! 5 Now the law requires the descendants of Levi who become priests to collect a tenth from the people—that is, from their fellow Israelites—even though they also are descended from Abraham.
35
Hebrews 7:4-10 6 This man, however, did not trace his descent from Levi, yet he collected a tenth from Abraham and blessed him who had the promises. 7 And without doubt the lesser is blessed by the greater. 8 In the one case, the tenth is collected by people who die; but in the other case, by him who is declared to be living.
36
Hebrews 7:4-10 9 One might even say that Levi, who collects the tenth, paid the tenth through Abraham, 10 because when Melchizedek met Abraham, Levi was still in the body of his ancestor.

APPLICATION 1. Who is your authority that defines the direction of your life? If it is not Jesus you are basing it on something inferior.
54
APPLICATION 2. Once someone’s mind is made up it is very difficult sometimes to change it.
55
APPLICATION 3. The author’s argument that Jesus is the superior priesthood and authority is still valid- even in today’s modern world in which hundreds of men, philosophies and world views compete for your devotion.
