“A Poison tree” by William blake
With your group, read your chunk of “A Poison Tree” again. As you read, visualize your chunk and make a sketch in the margin of your book. Your sketch should reflect specific themes or ideas present in your chunk. Be prepared to present and explain to the class. You have 5 minutes.

Strategies learning log
On page 93 you will find two learning logs. Tonight, fill them out using “Chunking” and “Visualization” (the two strategies we just used with “A Poison Tree”) as the strategies you’re discussing. This should only take you about 10 minutes to finish. You should be prepared to share your responses tomorrow in class.
6
Word category chart On page 94, you will find a list of words from the story “The Cask of Amontillado” which we will be reading tomorrow. With your table groups, divide the words into four categories that help familiarize you with the vocabulary in the story. Be sure that you write the headings to each category. You may need to guess at the placement of some of these words. Don’t worry! We will be learning these words in more depth as we read.
7
Catacombs & carnival
8
Catacombs & carnival Read the remainder of “Catacombs & Carnival” on your own. Use the diffusing strategy on any words you do not know. Pay close attention to the words in italics as we will be coming back to them. These are the same words you sorted on the Word Category Chart on page 94. This text will help provide background knowledge for your reading of “The Cask of Amontillado”. Now, look back at your Word Category Chart. How good was your sorting? What words might you need to resort? Be sure to write down any questions you might have as you read.

Want to know more? Do you want to know more about catacombs and Carnival? There are two videos posted on your Google Class page that provide more information.
10
homework Finish the Strategies Learning Log on page 93. This should only take about 10 minutes. On the Google Class page, watch the beginning of the film adaptation of “The Cask of Amontillado”. Be sure that you only watch up to the 13 minute and 10 second mark. DO NOT watch the whole video. As you watch, use your C-Notes sheet to take notes on the SETTING of the story and specifically Carnival. Be sure that you do this, as you will need the notes later in the week.
11
closing On a sticky note, write an answer to this week’s Essential Question: How do authors and directors use specific techniques to achieve a desired effect? Be sure and post it on the board before you leave.
