2 Build or Bust? (Was the colony successful?)
A successful Dutch settlement in the colony grew up on the southern tip of Manhattan Island and was christened New Amsterdam. To legitimize Dutch claims to New Amsterdam, Dutch governor Peter Minuit formally purchased Manhattan from the local tribe from which it derives it name in 1626.

3 Establishment of the New York Colony
The New York colony was established in It was originally a Dutch colony called New Amsterdam, it would soon be renamed New York when the Dutch surrendered their colony to the English. It was renamed New York after the Duke of York.

4 What was the importance of New York colony being established?
The new york colony thrived in fur trading (what they produced to make money) and agricultural resources, which is why it was important to establish the colony where it’s at. Agricultural resource- patroon system In the United States, a patroon was a landholder with manorial rights to large tracts of land in the 17th century Dutch colony of New Netherland on the east coast of North America

5 The Land Owner of the New York Colony
Peter minuit was the founder and land owner of the New York Colony. After it was discovered in 1626, dutch settlers began to populate the area. Most of the settlers established small colonies of there own, mainly in albany and other points along the hudson river.

6 Government of the colony
New York has a governor and an elected assembly. The Charter of Liberties gives free rights to all Dutch and English settlers. New York also has religious freedom. The colony was run by a governor appointed by the king of England. He made all the laws, and there was little self-government. Sometimes the colonist were able to gain more freedom, (the right to elect the mayor of New York City, the chance to set up an assembly), but these freedoms did not last long.New York adopted its first state constitution in It has been rewritten several times. The capital was variously located at Kingston, White Plains, Poughkeepsie, and New York City before Albany was selected as the permanent site in 1797.

7 Associations and Climate
The New York colony is mainly associated with the middle colonies. New York is characterized mainly by mountains in the northeast, lowlands near the canadian border and an atlantic coastal plain. The climate there was mild with warm summers and average winters.

8 Religious and Educational Values
New York was situated between the Puritan colonies of New England and the catholic colony of Maryland, so the settlers were of many faiths. They had considerable religious freedom. Although minorities were numerous, it can be said that Protestantism was the main religion in colonial New York. As for education, children spent limited time in school, they mainly helped their families work.

9 Food supply Natural resources in the New York Colony included agricultural land, coal, furs, forestry (timber), and iron ore. The New York Colony was also referred to as a breadbasket colony because one of its major crops was wheat.

10 Colonial Fun time and fun facts
They pretty much worked most of the time. Although, the children probably played with hand-made toys and with each other when they had time. Other then that life was pretty basic. fun had in colonial New York They pretty much worked most of the time. As for fun facts, The New York Colony was not dominated by a specific religion and residents were free to worship as they chose. There were Catholics, Jews, Lutherans, and Quakers among others

Emblazoned on a dark blue field is the state coat of arms. The goddess Liberty holds a pole with a Liberty Cap on top. Liberty stands for freedom. At her feet is a discarded crown, representing freedom from England at the end of the revolutionary war. On the right is the goddess, Justice. She wears a blindfold and carries the scales of justice. Meaning that everyone receives equal treatment under the law. The state motto "Excelsior" on a white ribbon expresses the idea of reaching upward to higher goals. On the shield a sun rises over the Hudson highlands and ships sail the Hudson river. Above the shield is an eagle resting on a globe representing the Western Hemisphere. New york flag
