In case you're wondering why “diamonds are a girl's best friend," it probably has to do with the fact that diamonds are the most popular gemstone in the world. One saying suggests that it first came to be popular from the title of a song of the same name, first introduced in the original Broadway production of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Marilyn Monroe's version of the song from the film version of the Broadway show was named the 12th most important movie song of all time by the American Film Institute. Later on, the advertising industry and Hollywood had inflated and raised the price of these glittering stones. However, there’s another story explains why diamonds are so popular…

writer Edward Jay Epstein suggested, “Both women and men had to be made to perceive diamonds not as marketable precious stones but as an inseparable part of courtship and married life.” 1947, the slogan “diamond is forever” was introduced so the market would not be filled with second hand diamonds many people believe diamond = forever love
