The purpose of workshop varies:
Brainstorming
Visioning/ strategizing
Planning/ programming
Consultation
There are many workshop formats: the format should be selected according to the purpose of the workshop
Yet keep in mind time and cost

5. Choose facilitator
Is master of ceremonies and process manager – should not be involved ‘on the content side’
Should preferably be familiar with the topic
Personality: listening, stimulating, sense of humor, ability to articulate, summarize and ask clarifying questions

6. Real time summarizing Workshop should have a ‘clear end’
Synthesis and summary – with some scope for suggestions
Suggestion: for real time summarizing use Powerpoint and Multimedia

7. Use energizers and ice breakers – but only when appropriate
