What are some causes of air pollution? Power station: fossil fuel powered station creates CO2 (carbon dioxide) emissions , greenhouse effect Driving cars: combustion in the engines creates SO2 (sulfur dioxide) emissions in the air How is it affecting your own life or people around you? Sore throat; pollutants enter lungs, Nervous systems: lead Pb, heavy metal, smoggy weather: affect traffic, slow traffic, car accidents What are some other effects you know? Visibility problems: eg. Beijing, smog creates visual problems; Masks, limit outdoor activities; Heart diseases: pm 2.5 particles, heart attacks Breathing/respiratory diseases: asthma, Causes: 1) burning coals; burning fossil fuels; 2) car emissions; 3) natural forest fires; Your life: 1)pm 2.5 particles clog blood vessels, increase risks of disorders in the nervous systems, cardivovascular diseases, heart diseases, lung diseases (asthma),3) lead (Pb), a toxic substance, can hurt the nervous system. life: 1) feel depressed when seeing gloomy skies; 2)can’t go outside often for outdoor activities; 3) wear masks when going outside; 4) limit outdoor activities
