9 Aftermath Burnside asked Lee for a truce to tend to the wounded
Lee granted this Richmond Examiner, “stunning defeat to the invader, a splendid victory to the defender of sacred soil.”

10 Reactions PA Governor Andrew Curtin, “It was not a battle, it was a butchery!” President Lincoln stated, “If there is a worse place than hell, I am in it.” Burnside was relieved of command

From a geographical perspective, why did the Army of the Potomac desperately want to attack Fredericksburg?
