1 How to Create Your Science Presentation
Hill Science 6 Alternative Energy Research 2013

2 Please take out… Page 2 – Source sheet Page 6 - Grading sheet
40 + completed notecards Put binder under table Sit quietly to hear directions

3 Information Gather ALL cards from ALL sources.
Place these cards in 10 piles by topic. So: ALL cards that have the topic “Energy and What it Is” ALL cards that have the topic “How energy generated” ALL cards with “Special equipment and location” And so on….

4 How to Begin Your Presentation
Sign in Go to: Start > Microsoft Office > Microsoft Office PowerPoint

5 To Begin the PowerPoint
Open PowerPoint A Title page will appear Type title in the large textbox name, date, period in the box below SAVE to (File : Save as) My computer YOUR FOLDER Science Title of your energy

6 DO NOT PLAY WITH COLORS OR FONTS AT THIS POINT!!!!
New Slide Click on New Slide in upper right tool bar. New Slide appears You will create your topic slides Type each title in the upper text box – one title per slide. DO NOT PLAY WITH COLORS OR FONTS AT THIS POINT!!!!

7 Slide Topics Energy and What it Is How Energy is Generated
Special Equipment and Location How Energy is Delivered To Consumer How Energy is Used by Consumer Advantages and Disadvantages Cost and Feasibility Current Research and Development Promotion (Persuasion) Opinion Works Cited SAVE!!!

8 Information Once you have each slide titled, go back to “Energy and What it Is” slide. Gather ALL cards that have the topic “Energy and What it Is” Type in the information BULLET POINTS, NOT SENTENCES – you are the expert and will explain the information to us. Include an internal citation for every fact. See next slide…

9 Internal Citations Internal citations are used to give credit to the source from which you got the information. Example Nucleus of an atom splits into smaller parts producing neutrons, protons, and a large amount of energy. (Nagel 2006) which is (author year) OR Each fuel cell is very large, so fuel cell at the location. (“Fuel Cells” 2011, Morgan 2006) if no author then (“article title” year)

10 Proper Video Citation Citation Elements in order: Document Example:
1. Episode or segment title: Solar Energy 2. Title of Web site: BrainPOP 3. Publisher or sponsor: BrainPOP 4. Date of Publication : 5. Format: Web 6. Date of access: 9 May 2014 Proper Citation Format: MLA citations are double-spaced and indented after the first line. “Solar Energy.” BrainPop. BrainPOP, Web. 9 May 2013.

11 Your Task Today Put the information on each slide.
Include the internal citation for every fact. Example: Hydroelectric power - electricity from moving water (Solway 2007)

12 Illustrations Toolbar – upper left. Format > Slide Layout
Choices will display on the right of your screen.

13 Illustrations Choices on right of screen Need to save in My Pictures
Need to copy and paste URL

17 Mistakes to Avoid Do not make an illustration your background.
It will be too difficult to read the words or see the illustration! Next slide illustrates the difficulty with reading the important information on top of a picture!

18 How Energy is Generated
Scientist use energy produced by fusing atoms. The energy heats water and produces steam. The steam rotates a generator producing electricity. Not ready to be used. universetoday.com

19 Works Cited Alphabetize the entries by author. If no author, use article title. 2nd line of entry must be indented (and 3rd and 4th if necessary) LOOK at your SOURCE SHEET. Everything is set up there for you!!!!!!!!!!!!! (if you followed directions and filled in your source sheet)
