Point Reason Example
9
“Telecommuting leads to greater employee productivity”
P: Point POINT State main point 10 words or less Visuals: great way to have audience “see” and “hear” your point Physically point to visual “Telecommuting leads to greater employee productivity”
10
R: Reason REASON Why should your audience remember your point?
Why is it important? Provide a clear reason why. “If employees are more productive throughout the day, they increase their input and output of work for the company, which enables the company to set higher goals for itself.”
11
E: Example EXAMPLE Helps to illustrate your point and reason.
Real life story, case study, analogy, statistic, etc. Start the same as in a paper, “For example,…”
12
E: Example “For example, Smith stated that an employee for Mac Trust, Inc. produced 5 financial report analyses every month when working in an office. When he telecommuted, he was able to produce 11, more than double the reports he did in the office. By having employees produce double the reports over the year, Mac Trust, Inc. gained more clients, a better reputation among businesses worldwide, and a spot on Forbes Top 100 Businesses.”
13
P: Point (again!) POINT Restate your point.
How will the audience benefit from remembering it? – Tell them how. “Therefore, if you own a business or are an employee who can telecommute, you can be more productive, benefiting the company and yourself.” *Transition to your points “Now that I have talked about (fill in), I want to discuss (fill in”
