How can you help your children at home?
You may feel that the maths your child is doing at school is different from how you were taught, but you will still be able to support your child in many ways.

Calculations Year 1 and 2: There are no formal written methods in KS1. Lots of practical activities help to develop the child’s understanding of number and mathematics.

Calculations Year 3, 4, 5 and 6: There are several different written methods for each operation. These methods increase in complexity as the child’s understanding deepens so will be taught in the order shown. All the calculation methods for KS2 are shown in the HSCB.

Vocabulary The vocabulary we use with the children is very important for their understanding.

Websites There are many free websites available for you to use. These include games, interactive resources and printable activities.

What extra activities can you do at home to support your child?
The class teachers will now share ideas with you to show you how you can support your child/ren at home.
