1. (1 Timothy 1:12-13), “And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord who has enabled me, because He counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry, 13 although I was formerly a blasphemer, a persecutor, and an insolent man; but I obtained mercy because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.
Thayer - one who, uplifted with pride, either heaps insulting language upon others or does them some shameful act of wrong
He treated others with aggressive disrespect.
A Parallel - The recent violence toward police officers in our country testifies to this violent disrespect in the world…
(Romans 1:30), “backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,”
Disrespecting and insulting others grows out of a prideful heart, one that cares less for others and more for self.
We ought to pause and consider whether we are also being insolent, treating others with disrespect, insults, or even violence.

2. We must respect God (Acts 10:34-35)
Reverence for God is expressed by humble obedience, without which, we will not be acceptable to Him
(Acts 10:34-35), “Then Peter opened his mouth and said: "In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality. 35 But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him.

3. We must respect God (Acts 10:34-35)
Children must respect Parents (Ephesians 6:2)
The respectful treatment of our parents does not end with adulthood
(Ephesians 6:2), “Honor your father and mother," which is the first commandment with promise”
(Leviticus 19:32), “You shall rise before the gray headed and honor the presence of an old man, and fear your God: I am the Lord.”

4. We must respect God (Acts 10:34-35)
Children must respect Parents (Ephesians 6:2)
Spouses must respect each Other (Ephesians 5:28-31,33)
The one flesh relationship of marriage is dishonored by prideful insults and disrespectful treatment
(Ephesians 5:28-31), “So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. 29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church. 30 For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones. 31 "For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.“
(33), “Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.”

5. We must respect God (Acts 10:34-35)
Children must respect Parents (Ephesians 6:2)
Spouses must respect each Other (Ephesians 5:28-31,33)
Brethren must respect each Other (Ephesians 5:21; Philippians 2:3)
We enhance unity in the church by considering our brethren as more important ourselves
(Ephesians 5:18-21), “And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, 20 giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, 21 submitting to one another in the fear of God.”
(Philippians 2:3), “Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.”

6. We avoid insolence by treating others with humility, by loving God and by loving our neighbor as ourselves.
