There was a break-in at the DNC office in Did Nixon know or cover it up? Led to his resignation and increased mistrust of government.

Decides Presidential succession and disability It also determines how to replace the Vice President if it is vacated.

The VP acts as to promote policy for the President. Joe Biden supported the Affordable Care Act with Congress members.

They advise the President and run specific departments. Not listed in the original Constitution. New positions must be created by Congress.

A. National Security Council Advises President on foreign affairs. B. Council of Economic Advisors Top 3 Economists advise the President on the economy. C. Office of Management and Budget Prepares the official budget from the President to submit to Congress.

Advises the President and promotes policies.

Coattails would allow members of Congress from the same party to get swept into office. Not that effective more recently.

#15. When can a president claim a mandate? What is the importance of a mandate? An overwhelming victory will give him the mandate to carry out his policies. It legitimizes his powers.

#16. What was the purpose of the War Powers Resolution? Has it been effective? It was designed to limit the power of the President to send troops overseas. It has not been tested yet. Is it a LEGISLATIVE VETO?

17 #17. What was unusual about the tax cut that Ronald Reagan pushed for in 1981?
When Congress wouldn’t agree, he went on TV and asked for citizens support. He got it and Congress caved.

18 #18. Who is the person on the President’s staff who most often deals directly with the press?
The Press Secretary
