2 Quality Assurance of Assessment Arrangements
Barbara Irvine Quality Enhancement Manager

3 The Quality Assurance Process
Centres must have a documented system to manage their assessment arrangements All assessment arrangement requests must be subject to internal verification

4 The Quality Assurance Process
There are seven key types of documentary evidence which all SQA centres must have.

5 Documented evidence of disability/additional support needs and how this generally affects the learning and teaching situation. (3) Evidence of assessed need and impact on learning and teaching Examples of evidence: dyslexic screening profiles, results of recent assessments eg reading speed, accuracy, evidence of ongoing support, medical correspondence, etc.

6 Documented evidence of need for current support, how it is met and how it relates to the assessment arrangements. (4) Evidence of a link between ongoing support and the assessment arrangements being requested Examples of evidence: personal learning support plans, progress review forms, details of support required from lecturers, or extended learning, etc.

7 Documented evidence that varying needs across subjects have been taken into account. (5)
Needs can vary across subjects therefore arrangements must be considered on a subject-by-subject basis Examples of evidence: documented consultation or feedback forms from subject staff.

8 Documented evidence for particular adjustments (6)
Arrangements should match with the candidate’s individual needs. Examples of evidence: results of recent assessments eg reading speed, accuracy, evidence of ongoing support from school/college, work with/without support, etc.

9 Documented evidence of internal verification of Assessment arrangements (1)
Examples of evidence: Note/minute of internal verification meeting held at appropriate time including a member of staff independent of Extended Learning/Equality and Inclusion Feedback from the college’s internal quality assurance audits Records of verification of late requests/refusals.

10 Documented evidence of confirmation from the candidate that they have agreed to the assessment arrangements and for details of their disability/difficulty to be disclosed to SQA. (2) Evidence: Candidate agreement signed and dated (countersigned by an adult if under 16 years) Agreement contains details of arrangements for each subject.

11 Documented evidence of a system for the management of SQA assessment arrangements which is supported by senior management. (7) Evidence: Policy/procedure/AA timetable/calendar supported by Senior Management.

12 Internal and External Assessed Qualifications
The College’s processes for assessment arrangements for externally assessed qualifications and internally assessed qualifications should be the same (except submission on AAR system).
