A Few Statistics Although San Mateo County is one of the most affluent counties in the United States, 50% of 3rd graders are not proficient in reading. Third graders who cannot read at grade level are four times less likely to graduate by age 18 than a proficient 3rd grade reader. We have increased our participation by over 400% since the challenge was implemented!

BLIS – Big Lift Inspiring Summers Camp Program
Five weeks of full day summer camp at five schools in San Mateo County Scholars in families with low income going into kindergarten and first grade Next year, BLIS is expanding to three more school districts and adding rising second grade classes at all sites Over 100 interns hired as assistant teachers and facilitators
