Analysis The analysis will yield
vibrational and rotational energy levels and molecular constants deviations from the simple models mentioned above, namely vibrational-rotational coupling, anharmonic vibrations and centrifugal stretching of the bond Isotopic effects

Purpose HCℓ is a classic example of a simple vibrating and rotating molecule. The purpose is to use the Simple Harmonic Oscillator and Rigid Rotor quantum mechanical models to analyze the vibrations and rotations of this diatomic. You will take FTIR spectra of gas phase HCℓ and its deuterium analog, DCℓ. The data will provide a study of the isotope effect.

Day 2: Work on analyses of the spectra
