What is Wellness? Reflects how a person feels and is able to function
More than just an absence of disease Positive component of good health – opposite of illness

A definition of wellness
“a way of life which you design to enjoy the highest level of health and well-being possible during the years you have in this life.” (taken from High Level Wellness by Don Ardell, 1986)

Assessment (700 pts) Five parts to your final grade:
Fitness & Lifestyle Change (150) Plan & 25 pts. = 50 pts. 10 Weekly 10 pts. = 100 pts. Moodle Quizzes (150) Lab activities (50) 10 5 lab activities = 50 pts. Exams (350) Tests 1 & questions = 100 pts. Final questions = 150 pts. Attendance (20 pts. Deducted after 2)

Fitness & Lifestyle Change Project
Develop a personal fitness plan and follow for 10 weeks Include 3+ aerobic act. Per week Select a behavior to target for a lifestyle change Nutrition, stress, weight loss, smoking, etc. Turn in a summary at conclusion

Moodle Quizzes On-line, open-book quizzes after going over each chapter in class. Quiz ?’s will come from text Quiz opened for one week Second chance to take quiz during week before each test

Lab Activities Five lab activities 4 lab activities in class
CardioRespiratory Risks Body Composition Muscular Fitness Aerobic Fitness The nutrition lab will be assigned in class

Exams Tests will be objective, made up of multiple choice questions
Test 1 (Ch. 1-6) 50 questions/100 points Test 2 (Ch. 7-9) Test 2 is comprehensive 50 questions from Ch 25 questions from Tests 1 & 2 75 questions/150 points

Attendance Policy & Dress Code
20 points deducted from total pts. after 2 unexcused absences Notify instructor of excused absences No shorts except for appropriate labs Please turn off cell phones & take out ear phones before class No laptops during class
