EU FRAMEWORK PROGRAMMES
Main instruments for funding research in Europe. The frame for the EU activities in the field of science, research and innovation. Designed to support cooperation between universities, research centres and industry (including SMEs), and provide financial support for their common projects. Multiannual cycles: FP7 ( ) total budget of 50 billion EUR FP8 ( ) - HORIZON 2020 anticipated budget of 80 billion EUR

FP7 – PARTICIPATION Any legal entity established in accordance with national, international, or EU laws: universities or research institutes, companies (including SMEs), public administration (research policies or public research management), Individuals (People Programme). 3 categories of participating countries: member states – MS, associated countries – AC (BiH), and third countries.

FP7 – PARTICIPATION No national quotas Minimum requirements – Rules of Participation, Article 5: 3 independent participants from 3 countries (MS or AC) Other conditions in WP – Work Programmes or SP – Specific Programmes Funding schemes (types of projects)

S&T Quality (clearly defined objectives and quality of the concept; S&T quality key to first stage evaluation) Impact (contribution at EU level to impacts listed in Work Programme for relevant topic/activity) Implementation (appropriateness of management structure and procedures, quality and management experience) • Evaluation criteria – thematic priority or call specific (further elaborated in the guide for applicants of each call).

FP7 – EVALUATION Thresholds: S/T quality: 3/5 (50% value coefficient),
Implementation: 3/5 (20% value coefficient), Impact: 3/5 (30% value coefficient). Overall threshold 10/15 ! ! ! ! Rules – follow the rules (Work Program & Call info, Participation Rules)! Partnership – choose the correct partners! Exploitation/management! Proposal – invest in proposal writing!
