Stronger than a comma, but not as strong as a period
Semicolon goes where the first sentence should end, much like a comma and a conjunction

3. Uses
Use a semicolon to join the parts of two sentences if a coordinating conjunction is not used
The first winner of the race was Mark.
He won by at least five minutes.
The first winner of the race was Mark; he won by at least five minutes.

4. Uses
Use a semicolon before a conjunctive adverb that joins the clauses of a compound sentence.
Tim was declared the winner; however later it was found that he cheated.

5. Uses
When commas occur within parts of a series, use semicolons to separate the parts.
My family and I traveled to Atlanta, GA; Paris, France; and Mobile, AL.

6. Practice
Tim and Bob left the store later they returned to find it had been robbed.
The first World Series was only five games long however it has changed since then.
My mother and I went to New Orleans, LA Houston, TX and Spokane, WA this summer. ; ; ; ;
