2 Entry Task Turning Points!
Think of a time in your life that was a major turning point. (Ex: moved to a new city, changed schools, met Mr. Martin) How did this turning point change your life? Why would you define your life as “Before X event” and “After X Event”?

3 The Protestant Reformation (Turning Point one)
Protestants split from the Catholic Church Protestants- protested some of the Catholic churches practices. 1534- King Henry VIII founded the church of England.

4 Spain and England at War!
Protestant (England) vs. Catholic (Spain) Spanish Armada was defeated by a smaller British force Spain’s economy suffered inflation. (Remember the Gold and Silver) Shift in power “Sea Dogs”

5 Pirates! Spanish Armada 3- This time it's personal
Spanish Armada defeat is a huge turning point in World History.

6 The Northwest Passage John Cabot- Second man to land on North America
His travels lead to British claim of America

7 Jacques Cartier Sailed into the St. Lawrence river all the way to Montreal France’s claim to Canada

8 The Northwest Passage Henry Hudson- Sailed to New York in 1609
Sailed as far as the Hudson Bay looking for a Northwest passage. HE NEVER FOUND IT! (Sorry about throwing that question in there)

9 English Presence Sir Walter Raleigh
Received a charter or document giving him permission to start a colony Roanoke Another video Google maps

10 French Explorers Samuel De Champlain Visited the Great Lakes
Founded Quebec New France was the early name for Canada French explorers claimed the Mississippi River area for France

11 Homework Read P Answer Questions 1-3 on p61
