Why do we use formative assessments?
Teachers who regularly utilize formative assessments are better able to: determine what standards students already know and to what degree (purposeful) Decide what minor modifications/major changes in instruction they need to make so all students can succeed Create appropriate lessons &activities for groups or individual students (differentiate instruction) Inform students about progress in order for them to set goals for improvement Common Formative Assessments by Larry Ainsworth & Donald B. Group Activity Each group will receive a lesson plan specific to their content area Read through the lesson plan Develop a pre-assessment that would correlate to the lesson Decide on a method for “checking for understanding” during the lesson Develop a post-assessment that would demonstrate whether or not the students achieved the Teaching Point
