Teachers who regularly utilize formative assessments are better able to: determine what standards students already know and to what degree (purposeful) Decide what minor modifications/major changes in instruction they need to make so all students can succeed Create appropriate lessons &activities for groups or individual students (differentiate instruction) Inform students about progress in order for them to set goals for improvement Common Formative Assessments by Larry Ainsworth & Donald B.
