2. Lab Equipment Identification
Standard: Inq.2 - Select tools and procedures needed to conduct a moderately complex experiment.

3. Lab Walking Instructions
On your chart you will:
Write what you think the name of tool is
Draw a quick sketch of the tool
Write what you think its function is
You will be given 2 minutes at each station so be efficient but be neat, these are notes.
We will review you identification and add some tools after.

4. 1. Erlenmeyer Flask An inverted conical base with a cylindrical neck.
Good for mixing solutions

5. 2. Beaker
A cylindrical cup with a notch on the top to allow for the pouring of liquids.
They are very stable and easy to handle.

6. 3. Test Tube Designed to allow easy heating of samples in a flame.
Often preferred above beakers when multiple small chemical or biological samples have to be handled and/or stored.

7. 4. Test Tube Rack
Used to store and display test tubes in an upright position.

8. 5. Test Tube Holder
Used to hold test tubes, especially when heated or containing harmful chemicals.

9. 6. Test Tube Brush
Used to clean the insides of test tubes.

10. 7. Meter stick
Used to measure length.

11. 8. Hot Plate
A small electric stove often used in a laboratory setting to heat glassware.

12. 9. Graduated Cylinder
Used for measuring the volumes of liquids.

13. 10. Funnel
Used to channel liquid or fine-grained substances into containers with a small opening.

14. 11. Eye Dropper/ pipette
Used to mix or dispense small amounts of liquid, a drop at a time.

15. 12. Triple Beam Balance
Used to accurately measure the mass of an object. The object is placed on the measuring pan, and standard weights are added to the scale pan until the beam is in equilibrium.

16. 13. Safety Goggles
A form of protective eyewear that usually enclose the eye area.
Prevents particulates or chemicals from striking the eyes.

17. 14. Thermometer
Used to measure temperatures or temperature changes.

18. 15. Forceps/Tweezers
Used for grasping and holding small objects.

19. 16. Spring Scale
Measures weight by determining the deflection of a spring.

20. 17. Stopper
A truncated conical piece of rubber or cork used to close off a glass tube.
