Parents
Encourage reading in all shapes and forms, comics, shop signs and bedtime stories
Count everything you can, forward, backward and start from unexpected numbers
Encourage thinking skills, allow children to find their own way of solving a problem.
Encourage curiosity, ask questions yourself and your child will want to find the answer!
Encourage mark making in all varieties, pencil chalk, paint…
Play games with HF words and CVC words to build confidence.

Maths
Use mathematical language like ‘more than’, ‘less than’ to explore the concept of adding and subtracting.
Investigate and practice weighing and estimating skills using breakfast objects.
Use breakfast items to compare amounts and totals.
Use our breakfast morning to formulate data to discuss. Which breakfast was the most popular?
Knowledge of the World
Use magnifiers to look closely at ‘food items’. Use vocabulary to compare similarities and differences of the textures of objects
Explore the use of water in food making.
Understand and be able to explain what we need to keep healthy.
Expressive Arts and Design
Use food items to make prints.
• Investigate colour mixing using magical colours.
• Use modelling material to create your own food.
• Make chocolate paintings using melted chocolate on clear plastic sheeting.
Communication and Language
Investigate foods by smelling, touching and tasting. Use words to describe shape, size, texture, smell, taste and colour of different food.
Take photographs of our breakfast morning, to sequence and discuss.
Generate questions to explore as a point of interest.
Discuss Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Talk about breakfast. What do people have for breakfast? What do people eat for breakfast in other countries?
Talk about why we need food. Sort them into categories. What makes us healthy?
