MY BRIDGE For B.N.S. Engineering Week Project By Jake Foran

2 The Challenge To create a design and build a bridge using household materials (or lollipop sticks in my case). It must be free standing and bridge a gap of 40cm. It must support the weight of a toy car.

3 Types of Bridges:

4 What is a Truss Bridge My design is called a truss bridge and as we can see on the internet, it could take a brick. A truss bridge is a bridge whose load- bearing superstructure is composed of a truss, a structure of connected elements usually forming triangular units. Truss bridges are one of the oldest types of modern bridges.

5 The reason why I picked the truss bridge:
It is so durable that it can take the weight of a brick, as you saw in the last slide. It is so simple to make but so strong. Personally I think anyone can follow this design. It is very cheap to make and I totally recommenced it. The basic types of truss bridges have simple designs which could be easily analysed by 19th- and early 20th- century engineers. A truss bridge is economical to construct because it uses materials efficiently.

6 MY DESIGN: MINE #NOT PROUD AT ALL WIKIPEDIA # SO JEALOUS

7 Struggles OK Its not my fault the design was bad, (artistic wise) but the finished project was actually pretty good (as you can see) (not trying to boast) considering it was made out of lollipop sticks and glue. The bridge really needed some weights for when we where drying the bridge`s 4 sections so for the plank of the bridge( or the bottom) we needed steel bars to keep it in place and to weigh it down. AND THE GLUE WAS SO SLLLLLLLLOWWWWWWW! In fact it was like watching paint dry, it basically was watching paint dry!

8 How I made my Bridge Materials Method Glue Lollipop sticks
Money(to buy more lollipop sticks) (MAA! WE NEED MORE LOLLIPOP STICKS!!) Engineering consultant(my dad) GOOGLE!!(no seriously) OK I will actually give you the proper method First, you need to make a truss(the triangles on the side) and glue them together and repeat the process and glue them together x2 Then you make the plank by making it with 3 rows of lollipop sticks and placing some more on top. Then you do the same but shorter for the top. Finally glue together!

9 end I’d like to thank, pat foran (my dad) Jonah foran (my brother) and my maa! As you might know her, Gillian deacon(my mother)
