3 What do we do? Functions of the Board include:
Identification, promotion, and support of 'best practice' activities throughout the fire protection industry. Management of the permit and licensing system to ensure applicants meet minimum standards of competency prior to granting of Extinguishing Agent Handling Licences (EAHL's) and Extinguishing Agent Trading Authorisations (EATA's). Implementation of effective communication and consultation with the fire protection industry to encourage and facilitate regulatory compliance. Development and distribution of ozone depleting substance and synthetic greenhouse gas (ODS & SGG) learning and assessment resources to support those working in the fire protection industry. Undertaking review and audit activities to ensure fire protection industry compliance with the Ozone Protection and Synthetic Greenhouse Gas Management Act 1989 (the Act).     

4 2017 – 2022 Strategic Plan Vision
Minimise the use and emission of ozone depleting substances (ODS) and synthetic greenhouse gases (SGG) used to suppress fires. Mission Through a well-structured licensing system and proactive education, communication and monitoring activities, minimise the use and emission of ODS and SGG extinguishing agents to protect the environment. The Board’s five year plan The goals of this strategic plan are to: Deliver education, communication, monitoring and regulatory initiatives that achieve outcomes specified in the relevant legislation. Ensure that actions taken by the Board deliver the best outcomes for the environment while balancing the needs of the fire protection industry. Work collaboratively with the Department of the Environment and Energy and the community to identify and implement effective solutions that reduce the emissions of scheduled gases. Improve industry compliance through proactive engagement and education/ communication activities that demonstrate the importance of the Fire Protection Industry Scheme. Maintain a focus on achieving outcomes through performance monitoring and assessment against key performance indicators.

Online applications for licences, permits and authorisations through the website Increased engagement and monitoring of industry compliance Transition related case studies and fact sheets produced Increased production of material that is specific to the aviation, mining, marine and building industries
