Description: Credit recovery is a self-paced, web-based program of study. Several web-based programs may be used for credit recovery and a certified teacher will offer additional support to assist students with skill remediation. When students take pre-tests for units of study, they may demonstrate proficiency in a unit and are able to move on to other units of study and content standards. Since credit recovery is self-paced, motivated students may be able to recover several credits during the summer. However, students may only be enrolled in one credit recovery course at a time. All credit recovery courses must be completed by the last day of the summer school term. Students who pass a credit recovery course will earn a grade of 70% and students who do not pass the credit recovery course by the last day of the term will earn a grade of 50%. Students are required to attend summer school every day for the full day until all course requirements are met. Students will be released from credit recovery upon successful completion of individual remediation plans regardless of the number of hours of instruction. ACCESS Distance Learning for Credit Enhancement Participants: ACCESS Distance Learning is a web-based program that a student may take to “get ahead” in a particular subject area. Students may take ACCESS courses in core courses or electives, such as foreign language. Students must have approval of the school guidance counselor to enroll in ACCESS courses. Counselors will ensure that the course is a part of the student’s four year plan. Description: This program will feature supervised instruction via a web based setting where students will complete course assignments through the Alabama ACCESS distance learning program. The instruction and assigned work will be provided through the internet by a highly qualified teacher in the subject area who is working for the state of Alabama. This distance learning teacher will assign the final grade. The HCS personnel supervising the classroom will serve only as the facilitator between the students and the ACCESS teacher. Students who will be successful with this mode of instruction are able to work independently and are motivated to successfully complete assignments so that the course is successfully finished by the last day of summer school. Credit Enhancement Participants: Students who want to take a course to “get ahead” in a particular subject area may sign up for this mode of instruction that is teacher led in a face to face setting. These courses are not self-paced and the attendance requirements are not subject to change. Description: Courses will be taught following the summer school schedule in which students must complete the entire term. Teachers may use the digital curriculum, textbooks, and other resources in the classroom to facilitate successful completion of the course. Students may wish to take Credit Enhancement courses to enable them to get ahead or make room in their future schedule for other opportunities.
