2. Characteristics of Effective Feedback
Directs attention to the intended learning, pointing out strengths and offering specific information to guide improvement
Occurs during learning, while there is still time to act on it
Addresses partial understanding
Does not do the thinking for the student
Limits corrective information to the amount of advice the student can act on

3. Effective feedback directs attention to the intended learning.

4. Success Feedback – identifies what was done correctly, describes a feature of the work & points out effective use of strategy.
Example: You got all the questions on parallel and perpendicular lines right.

5. Intervention feedback – identifies areas in need of improvement and provides enough information so that the student understands what to do next. Example: The meaning of the paraphrased information in paragraph 3 does not come through clearly. Try underlining the key ideas in the original and rewrite in your own words. Then try your paragraph again.

6. Praise as Success Feedback– Too often, praise does not provide information of value to reinforce the learning or take action to change it.
